Public Events

Máire Geoghegan Quinn, EU Research, Innovation and Science Commissioner recorded a video message which was broadcast at every VOICES Public Event, and also wrote to the 1000 participants in the VOICES focus groups to thank them for their participation and to let them know how the results had impacted European research.

Six of the VOICES Third Parties hosted and organised public events based on the results of the consultations held in all 27 EU countries on the topic "Urban Waste".

The model for these events is the Maker Faire which in the last 5 years has become a vibrant meeting and exchange place for all kinds of people involved in innovation, technology, creativity and participation.

VOICES public event in Lisbon took place at Ciência Viva Pavilion of Knowledge on November 23rd.

VOICES public event in Granada took place at the Parque de la Ciencia on November 16th-17h.

The first event took place in Dublin, on July 27th 2013, at the Science Gallery for the Dublin Mini Maker Faire.

The other events around Europe took place in autumn 2013 and capitalized on the topic and on the results of the citizens' consultations.

These events contributed to the European Year of Citizens 2013 with a format that encourages and highlights citizens' contributions to science, technology and innovation.

VOICES was publicly presented, for the first time, during the Ecsite Annual Conference, that took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, on June 6-8 2013 with over a thousand participants. The Conference is the most prominent meeting of science communication professionals in Europe.
